Look up the publication "Rural Walks in Flintshire" This excellent walking guide is produced by Flintshire Countryside Service. There are 25 walks in this very special book with walk 18 starting here at Y Dderwen-The Oak. This walk is unique in that if you wish for your return to base as it were you can use public transport.Each walk is illustrated with a detailed map and enough information to find and follow the route.

There are too many walks that can be done from our pub. There is plenty of car parking spaces available for the largest of groups. Whilst we do not do food here ourselves we can order in a buffet for you. You tell us the price you want to pay, how many it's for and what time and leave he rest to us. A lovely tasty buffet will await you on your return. There are walks of various difficulties you could take and various lengths. The scenery is really beautiful with plenty of history to see and wildlife to watch.
The steps on our back wall clearly show where the miners were able to step over the wall and make their way to the pub for i'm sure a well deserved pint. They would have walked all the way from the mine in Cilcain.
